Dirty Dirty Brushes!

I know a lot of us are pretty much guilty of this bad habit. Makeup brushes can be a haven for dirt, oil, bacteria and all sorts of nasty things that you could think of. Failing to sanitize and clean your bristles can obviously result to transmitting this buildup to your skin and causing horrible pimples, acne and breakouts! Especially to those of you with sensitive skin! Some severe viral infections can spread as well through sharing brushes or makeup products.
Additionally, cleaning your makeup brushes regularly will also stretch their durability and enhance their performance.
So everybody has their own way of cleaning their brushes, but here are a few tips I’ve picked up:
  • Try to clean your brushes at least once a week.
  • Use olive oil on a piece of tissue paper and swirl your brushes to remove some of the makeup on the brushes. This will also help condition the brushes.
  • Use baking soda (to deodorize and sterilize) and baby shampoo.
  • Set your brushes to dry upside down so that the liquid doesn’t soak into the base of brushes and cause the bristles to fall out.
  • For on the go cleansing, specialized cleansers are available at most makeup stores. But this is not as good as shampooing your brushes which gives them a deep cleanse.

Style: High-waisted Trousers

High-waisted trousers are definitely a wardrobe necessity. They look great on curvy figures. Classy and timeless, and can be transformed easily from a day to night look.
Although you should find yourself a perfectly fitted pair or else you will end up looking like MC Hammer… LOL ;)
Check out how Kim Kardashian wears this trend just right!

Collar trend

The collar trend has been popular since last year, and seems like it’s going to be here for quite a while.
So, whatever your taste might be, there’s a collar out there for you.  Lacey, studded, peter pan, button up to the top, detachable, collar necklaces, embellished...etc- It’s all about the collars!

Trend Alert: Spider Lashes!!!

Personally, I believe that my makeup is not complete without applying a few coats of mascara. Mascara really helps to lengthen and thicken your lashes, as well as open up your eyes.
Spider” lashes have been recently showcased at major fashion runways. It is basically mascara applied heavily to top and bottom lashes, purely reminiscent of the 60s “Twiggy-style makeup”

Twiggy actually used black eyeliner to draw her bottom lashes.

Kim Kardashian is known for following the spider lash trend

To achieve this look:
1. Prime your eyes. Then, the way I would wear this look would be with shimmery beiges or neutral eye shadows.

2. Use an eyelash curler to curl your lashes.

3. For those of you who have thin eyelashes, I would recommend using an eyelash primer, to give your lashes more thickness, and would also help with the spider lashes effect as it slightly clumps the lashes.

4. Apply any black mascara; I use my all time favorite mascara “Maybelline Black Colossal Volume Express”. I start off by applying the mascara as I would normally do.  Then, apply a few heavy coats of mascara from the roots to the top in a zigzag motion.  Next, use the tip of the wand and work on each lash (bottom and top) to give you the clumpy lashes effect.

5. For glamorous or evening wear, apply bold color lipsticks in bright or deep shades. Otherwise for a clean look wear it with nude color lipsticks or a clear gloss.

Urban Decay Naked Palette (BRONZE MAKEUP LOOK)

So, I finally got my hands on this Naked Palette, I realize it’s a bit too late since the Naked Palette 2 is out now. I bought this from Sephora Dubai since Urban Decay is not sold here in Bahrain :(

The palette comes with

- Good Karma Eyeshadow Brush

- 0.13 oz Travel-size Eyeshadow Primer Potion

I decided to create a bronze makeup look using my lovely Naked Palette

To achieve this look I started off by applying the primer potion all over my lid, next I used the Urban Decay Naked Palette and applied “Half Baked” and patted it all over my lid and then blend the color using a blending brush.

Then I added the color “Creep” to the outer corner of the eye, you can build up the intensity depending on your own preference and then blend the color using the blending brush.

I used the black eyeshadow from “PUPA 4Eyes Multi-Purpose Eyeshadow Palette #05” (you can use any matte black eyeshadow) and apply it over the “Creep” on the outer corner of the eyes to give it more intensity, and blend.

Using a tiny bit of the color “Smog” on a blending brush, blend the edges.

Next taking “Virgin” and applied it on the browbone and to the inner corner of my eyes.

I used a black kohl liner in my waterline, and then with a flat shader brush I mixed a very small amount of “Darkhorse” and “Creep” to smudge under my eyes.

Next I applied a thin black liner “Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner

Then I went ahead and put on a little bit of mascara “Maybelline Black Colossal Volume Express” on my top and bottom lashes and applied a pair of thick false lashes.

And voila! There you have your subtle bronze eye makeup; the false lashes just give a bit of a dramatic look.

For the blush and lips- applied a soft bronze color “Sephora’s Sun Disk” to my cheekbones for a sun-kissed glow. For the Lips I applied “Revlon Colorburst” in Peach and topped it with “No. 17 Ultimate Volume” Lipgloss in Peach Melba.

Hope you liked it! xx
